What Scent Keeps Bed Bugs Away?

In fact, it is believed that the only thing needed to draw bed bugs to a specific area is carbon dioxide. Heat also offers the same benefit as CO2. Experts believe there are two primary essential oils that may act as bed bug deterrence. These include tea oil and peppermint. Lavender may also offer the same benefit. A study conducted by the Department of Entomology at Rutgers University was published in the Journal of Economic Entomology In February 2018 revealed paraffin and silicone oils contained properties that could be toxic to bed bugs.
