Union Square is a public square that is which is bordered by Stockton, Powell, and Geary streets in downtown San Francisco, California. It is also known as the central theater and hotel core since the plaza surrounds it for several blocks. Its title Union Square was derived from the gatherings held by Thomas Starr King in support of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was designated a California Historical Landmark.
